Back To “Normal”

May 29, 2007

It’s the Tuesday after Memorial Day, and Tim is back at work. We both enjoyed the holiday weekend, but I’m glad to get to a more normal routine too:o)

Last week was a difficult one. Gabe has officially outgrown his cradle swing. My first clue was when I walked in on him as he tugged on the “out of reach” dangling fish that swung on an overhead mobile. I took the fish off (and gave them to him as chew toys) and tried to get him to nap,… he is now big enough to sit up unassisted, and proceeded to test the strength of the straps holding him in by lunging for freedom – repeatedly.

The swing is in our shed, awaiting a trip to the garbage dump. Gabe is suffering from sleep deprivation, since he no longer has a regular nap routine. We’ve started taking naps together in Mama and Daddy’s bed, but I hesitate to get him used to that routine – I’d like to use nap time for baby-free stuff!

Our holiday weekend had excitement! Adventure! On Saturday Bob and Gloria, Brian, Rachel and Mike all came over to our little place here and we ate booyah and hamburgers while playing Wii’s Smooth Moves and keeping an eye out for storms. A huge and scary storm passed just south of us – we could literally see it from our house! Perhaps the scariest moment was hearing that a tornado had touched down only five miles from here! Thankfully all we saw was a bit of wind and rain, and Gabe napped through it.

little vacations are nice, but there’s a certain comfort in getting back to “normal”, whatever it may be. my father-in-law had to fix tony’s little cradle swing twice, because he would rock forward, when it was going sideways. after he broke it a third time, it was time to say good-bye to it. that was a sad day, indeed.

by the way, I tagged you for an A-Z meme 😀
