A Break From Blogging

January 24, 2008

I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve sat down at the computer and started to type something, only to delete it in disgust and clean my house instead. The benefit to this is that my house is, and has been remarkably clean, but the downside is that I’m kind of losing my sense of contact with people I’ve come to care about. There are so many reasons why I’ve been out of touch, but most of them boil down to (1.) I’m a boring person who cleans my house for entertainment, and (2.) I’m just feeling too blah to come up with the right words to describe what I’d want to say. Anyway.

Gabe is teething – multiple molars, several sharp pointy ones, and I think a rhinoceros or two are all pushing their way into his mouth. Since I can only imagine how painful that it, I’m amazed at how well Gabe is holding up under everything. He’s busy playing with his xylophone toy and his books, and he’s absolutely in love with Sesame Street (strangely enough, their 25th anniversary music celebration cd has a calming influence,.. it gets played repeatedly when he’s fussy). Lately he’s taken to “reading” storybooks – he doesn’t quite have the patience to listen as I read the story, but he’ll have me hold the book open while he flips through the pages.

Also, Gabe dances. Seriously, he can keep a rhythmic motion down better than I can! He’s also not very picky about the music he dances to, although he only moonwalks in special circumstances. It’s fun watching him play and explore not just the world around him, but also his own body and abilities. He’s taken to standing and balancing on top of his truck toy, on one foot, and he’s delved into serious and deep exploration of belly buttons (not just his own, either). He’s trying to do everything I do, which is a bit hard when I’m cooking supper(!).

He’s an absolute joy, and an absolute pain-in-the-butt at the same time. I keep checking the mirror for the gray hair that I’m sure he’s going to give me, but so far I’ve only got the bruised lip from his unexpected “kiss” earlier. Who knew that a bruise could make me feel so warm and fuzzy inside?

I understand the blahs. sometimes I think of something I could blog about, then when I sit down here, it just doesn’t like something I want put down, so I find something else to do. unfortunately your something else is a little more productive than mine.

I think everyone should have a pet rhinoceros, it’s just too bad they’re so painful to come by.
