Toddler With Insomnia

March 7, 2008

Last night Gabe really tested the sanity of his parents. Both Tim and I were feeling especially worn out, since we’re both battling colds (passed on by Gabe, I’d like to point out) and trying to get healthy before our vacation coming up. Gabe was fussy and had red, puffy eyes, so we figured it was bedtime.

We figured wrong. Not only did Gabe not fall asleep, but he was so restless and noisy that only rocking him to sleep in the recliner worked – while watching Conan O’Brian, so you can get an idea of just how late it was. Then, he woke up around 2:30 and stayed up until 5 am, wanting nothing more than to play and read books and get tickled and bang on the walls. Since Tim’s had a high-pressure week at work, and calling in sick/sleepless was NOT an option for him, I played with Gabe and distracted him from doing anything that would keep Tim up too.

Gabe did finally fall asleep again, but it was too late for me. All the tea and lozenges aren’t enough to soothe the body ache I feel at the moment. Gabe? Sleeplessness seems to agree with him, since he’s a bundle of energy today. It just isn’t fair.
